Updates on Marshmellow from S and V, Marshie's new family...

Our Angel Marshmellow is a good, obedient girl as from the first day. She's doing well and she's a very happy doggie, she still never fails to surprise us with her funny quirks and moments. She welcomes us with great happiness and excitement when we return home, each day!

                                                 Mutton Chop

She particularly enjoys playing 'mutton chop' where she lays on her back and pretends to bite me while I check all her four paws. Her daily check calls for 'mutton chop' and she knows what she needs to do! She is a sweet kiddo!

She is so cute when having her belly rubbed (acting cute and all) twirling on her back, looking up with her sad eyes. She gives the heaviest sighs when we leave for work, every morning. (So cute)

By far, I would say that Marshmallow is the cleverest dog I've ever seen.  The rest, that I have come across were all busy being nursed back to good health.

Little Marshmallow throws tantrum at times but forgets quickly when we call her back into our arms. Little Marshmallow is the remedy to our loneliness.  Her presence has made our life complete. This would not have been made possible without the help of you and your dedicated team. Thank you

Hopeful Sandy

Sandy is our 4 month old female clown and waiting to 'go home'. She is trained and knows how to sit and will wait for her food or treats and not eat on command. Sandy loves food and to be able to do that, is giving a big part of herself for she obeys out of love and docility.

Sandy has also learnt to pee in the toilet and now learning to 'shake hands'. She has a good appetite and enjoys playing with other dogs. An exuberant, curious and intelligent little dog, she has the biggest eyes coupled with the huge-est ears, and looks like a little domesticated doe. A very affectionate little pup who loves to cuddle on your lap and being made a fuss of, Sandy is a perfect family addition as she is not barky but whimpers her love with licks and wags. Sandy walks very well on leash.

She still learning how to toilet train but is a very curious pup and adores people, other dogs (and food), which we are happy as the vet says this is good rehabilitation on her part. No matter how soundly she is sleeping, snoring upside down turtle style, the minute she hears rustling of plastic bag or someone eating, you can be sure Sandy is silently by your side looking on - hopeful.

Yes Hopeful Sandy that is what we call her. She is very healthy, playful and very cute, curious and has the saddest looking face with her big ears and huge eyes. Even when she is happy, she looks sad, only evidence of happiness is her waggy tail. She knows her name very well, knows how to sit and walks well on leash. We are still training her with toilet. She is not barky but whimpers or whine to sound her happiness or hunger.

Sandy was saved from being put down just hours before the deadline was up. Seeing her happy, alive and a carefree pup makes us very glad to have rescued her in the nick of time. Unfortunately, Sandy will not be suitable for HDB (or public housing) as she is considered a mid-size dog. She will grow into a small mid size.

Shiny for Adoption (on behalf of rescuer)

Shiny, a mongrel we found abandoned last year, was adopted by my uncle's family but he and my uncle do not get along at all. My uncle has over the past few months threatened to send Shiny to SPCA many times, but yesterday, he actually did call them to take him away, after Shiny bit him. On my mum's appeals, he has consented to retract his call and postpone Shiny's death sentence by a week.

Please help by forwarding this to anyone whom you think can offer Shiny a good, loving home. Despite his size (not suited for HDB flats), bark and exuberance, he has an amiable nature if not treated with animosity. For instance, he allowed me and another stranger to lead him up to our flat last year. With care and obedience training, he will make a loyal friend and watchdog.

Summer for Adoption (on behalf of rescuer)

Summer, a lovely, 3 year old female mix mongrel/lab looking for a home.

She was found wandering along Upp Bukit Timah Road and rescued. She is now being housed temporarily with her rescuer till she can find a home. Unfortunately her rescuer cannot keep her as she lives in a HDB.

Summer is not HDB approved.


Summer is a great dog with a wonderful temperament. She understands simple commands like sit, stay, down and No.

We thank all of you for your kind support and encouragement.

2009 has been a great year.

Our dear Lord has blessed us mightily

and helped us with the rescuing and rehoming. 

He is the ulimate Rehomer

and His timing is perfect.

It is because of Him that many of our dogs have found good homes,

and have begun new chapters in their lives.

We pray that the new year will bring you health and happiness

May you be blessed with the love of your family and friends.

Sandy's prayer for 2010

"As I lay me down to sleep;

I pray dear Lord my food will keep;

And I do earnestly pray that when I wake

A family, waiting for me, will take

I have learnt to sit and sometimes paw

And still learning so much more;

Walk on leash, Don't pull, Don't rush

Don't bark, well not much :) 

The newspaper is my bane

I find it so funny, its like a game

But the cross looks from everyone when i pee

Tells me, Oops, Uh oh, but huh, I still don't see ....?

Its not easy but I'll try
If that makes me more adoptable ?.. sigh

I'm still young and have time

One day I'll be in my prime.

I know I don't look like the other pups

Who have floppy ears and soft goofy looks

Umm, I once had that

But then I grew

And now have BIG ears

That points to the sky

Just like my beautiful momma

Who told me to hold my head up high

Cos she says I'm as good as any other

Who comes with certs, or pedigree and whatever

Long fur with ribbons and bows all kinds of colour

I don't need them, only my collar

I will be quiet, I will be good

 T'was the night before Christmas ...

at the Animal Shelter

'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,

Every shelter is full. We are lost but not found.
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
We hope every minute that someone will care.

They'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here, Kyoto, come over Rosy ~ come fetch your new ball!"
But now we just sit here and think of the days.....
We were treated so fondly ~ we had baby ways.

Once we were little, then we grew and we grew ~

Now we're no longer young, and we're no longer new
So out the back door we were thrown like trash,
They reacted so quickly ~ why were they so rash?

We "jump on the children," "don't come when they call",

We "bark when they leave us," "climb over the wall."
We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
Now we suffer the consequence of the error they made.

If only they'd trained us, if only we knew...

We'd have done what they asked us and worshipped them, too.
We were left in back yard, or worse ~ left to roam...
Now we're tired and lonely and out of a home.

They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-by....

"Maybe someone else will give you a try."
So now here we are, all confused and alone....
In a shelter with others who long for a home.

The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,

With so many to care for, they can't stay to chat.
They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer....
We know that they wonder how long we'll be here.

Of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.

Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears ~
Our friends filled with emptiness,
worry and fear.

If you can't adopt us and there's no room at your inn ~

Could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year ~
Can you give more than hope to everyone here?

Shadow's Dream

Shadow has been missing for many months; our lovely black Shadow, our huge dog with no tail and upright ears. Timid Shadow so called because he was always hiding behind the bushes and all anyone can see is a shadowy figure.

Sweet Shadow yes, we have seen him before but our photos of him are specks of black taken from a distance. No one has ever gone near enough to snap a shot of him that we had to draw a picture to epict a look-alike so that we may share with our readers, a never before heard in our blog or any we know. 

Shy Shadow, scared even of his own shadow!! If that was ever possible. How a big burly male dog like him become so afraid is beyond our understanding. What horrors has he experienced or seen to be this way. To be timid is one thing and common among strays, and Blackie was a class act in that but Shadow - Shadow tops the class. He wins hands-down for being the most terrified, spooked and dispirited dog of any we have ever met. 

Strange, very much so but still our lovely shadowy Shadow.

In the past months many readers have sounded their fears that Shadow may have gone to doggie’s heaven. In our hearts, though, we hoped they were wrong and that he had gone somewhere else, in another location but not gone for good.

And in our memories, we can still see how Shadow played surrogate Dad to the Ebony pups and best friend with the late Blackie. Those carefree days and fond memories would make us smile while holding back tears as we recount the happiness and sadness. 
Our feeder still leave food in the same spot as she keeps that hope alive. The food is eaten and we know there are still dogs out in the forest but is Shadow with them, we don't know. Its been so long that we've stopped guessing.


A few days ago, Shadow reappeared after many months of silence. He is alive! There was much rejoicing to see him still alive. He limps, more pronounced than in the past and with his trademark upright ears and no tail, he looks like always did, tired, thin but alive. When our feeder saw him in amazement and joy, she shouted out Blackie's name, Shadow stopped and turned back. He probably thought the word "Blacke" was our "Hello" as we always called that when we left food in the past. How we wished we could run to him , hug and stroke his head but each movement we make makes him nervous and he take steps backwards, but he recognises the word "Blackie" and we'd like to think that he still recognise our smell if not our looks. We hope perhaps that the glimpse of fleeting joy in his face was real and not our imagination.


The rejoicing is short lived. It turned very quickly to worry and now fear as we see Shadow is not alone. He has joined a new group of friends. This is not good news and a great disadvantage for him because when he was alone, he was less noticeable and in his usual style, he hides in the darkest part of the forest. Now that he has friends, he is braver and ventures out in the open with them. They roam the place and misconceived to be "a pack of wild dogs". They are a pack that is true, but they are NOT wild, that much we can attest. They are a group of dogs betrayed by their families and abandoned. These dogs are all looking for the same things,  love, food, their families and have come together, huddling close in comfort to each other in their misery and sadness.

But people are unkind and quick to jump to wrong conclusions and do not understand. Our dear shy Shadow is now misjudged when all he wants and longs for is companionship. That has become as elusive for him as he has been for us. He probably became lonely when Blackie died and this has forced him to join a few dogs and form "a family".

Dear Shadow, he has forgetten everything that Blackie has taught him. Only Blackie understood the true sense of survival. That means no friends, no baggage, no emotions, no relationship, no ties. Travel light is the modus operandi here and Blackie lived by that rule, till she birthed her pups and had to stay put for them. No other dog understood it better than her and Shadow has not picked from Blackie the ultimate skill that to be alive, he must be alone and be inconspicious. A pack of dogs always bode uncallled-for attention.

Lately we have heard of stringent checks in this area and we fear everyday that this will be the last for our dear Shadow. 

Sigh. How can we help Shadow even if we want to. He is so hard to find and so difficult to get close to. He is as unattainable to us as Blackie had been to us, that he has learnt well. There is also no safe place for him to rest now and all the shelters are full. We don’t have the finances, manpower nor resources to relocate him. The only thing we can give him is leave him plenty of food and our prayers that God is merciful to him. We cannot guarantee Shadow’s tomorrow, all we can ask from God is to grant him stregnth, speed from his daily meals and keep him safe while as he is aive, and if and should the ending come, let it be swift.

That’s our only hope and dream for our dear sweet Shadow now. Regretfully, life has not been fair to him, never was and never will.  And, perhaps, that is also Shadow’s dream – to live carefree and fed till the very end... dear Shadow, we are so sorry. 

Run Shadow, Run. Fly like the wind that blows through the forest just before a storm. Run like you never have before. We will see you again, dearest, one day we will. Playing in God's green pasture in His Kingdom above, and by your side, we will see our sweetheart Blackie again and this time, both of you won't have to run anymore but come to us in peace.

GeGe - The Shih Tzu for Adoption

GeGe the black and white Shih Tzu

GeGe is dear little lady dog looking for a new home.  She is an example of things gone wrong.  Her owner, Grandmama can no longer take care of her like she used to as she has just undergone an operation. Grandma has no one else to care for the dog as the grandchildren are young and the family menbers have their hands full with babies and toddlers.

GeGe is an 8 year old beautiful Shih Tzu who has been sterilised and is toilet trained. She is healthy and a docile sweet nature dog.  She does have dry eyes and just need to have eye drops applied.

Boobi for Adoption

Lovely sleek Boobi has a sad sad story to tell. His beautiful shiny coat belies the sadness in his eyes. Boobi was rescued as a pup from under the containers in a warehouse in Jurong. His rescuer took him home but her own two male alpha dogs did not like him and resented his presence. Boobi had to be confined to a small area when the owner was at work and whenever he could come out, the big dogs only allowed him to crouch and crawl around the house or he will get bitten when he stands up.

Everything he did or tried to do was difficult as the other dogs did not allow Boobi into the rooms, other areas, to eat or to play. They would snap and growl and this was how Boobi grew up. This was his puppyhood. Poor Boobi spent a long time just crawling around, too afraid to even bark and we are sure he didn't understand why he was treated such.

He is now fostered in a location where he can finally stand straight, run and play with much freedom and no snapping dogs. This place however is only for the interim and he still needs a home to return to, a family  to call his own, one where he can be himself and be accepted for what he is, a handsome, young and intelligent dog.

The past bullying however has taken its toll and stripped away Boobi's confidence and trust. He is very shy and is afraid. He still loves to play and we hope eventually he will learn to play with other dogs and understand they won't bite him like in his previous home. He just needs time to adjust. Given that, he will be able to show his new family what a great dog he truly is, not just in looks but in behaviour and temperment.


Boobi is one and a half years old and sports a glossy, shiny coat of lovely black fur. He is a nice sturdy build dog with a handsome stature. He has been fully vaccinated and sterilised and pronounced very healthy by the vet. He is very shy with people and dogs.
