Puppies for Adoption

The attached are photos of a few of the 7 puppies I rescued recently. They are about 2.5 to 3 months old. Really adorable! Would greatly appreciate your kind assistance in helping to find good homes for them. They are mongrels so would probably grow to be medium-sized dogs hence not permitted in HDB flats.

Responsible Dog Ownership

In line with AVA's Responsible Pet Ownership awareness, Tampines Park RC is pleased to introduce "Good Canine Resident" - a 4-lesson (6 hours) basic dog obedience program conducted by Ms. Shanice Tan, owner and founder of SuperNova Academy Of Dog Sports "where every dog shines".

We believe that "a pet is for life" and one of the greatest gift we can give to our doggy friend is to be equipped with right training methods for both dog and owner to enhance a positive attitude in the neighbourhood we live in, the place we call home.

Cavalier King Charles looking for homes

15 Sep10 - Update:

The three CKCS are now with different fosterers as we needed them to learn to be independent as we are realistic to understand they will not be rehomed together. Splitting them up also help us to differentiate their personalities.

Update of Shaggy by a fosterer

Just a little update on Shaggy as requested. I'm falling in love with him already......heeee. 

Shaggy is a very sweet boy if I may use the word sweet for boys. When we first brought him home, he was like lost and were a little scared of my two other furkids at home. But once he is familiar with them, he is fine. Shaggy is not toilet or paper trained, sadly. He is very good with holding his pee and poo till he gets to go out for his walk.
 When we first took over the fostering, Shaggy's eyes were so badly infected that he can't really see properly and always bump into things in his way. His ears were also infected and smells.


After consulting the Vet with medications to clean and wash his eyes and ears every day, his eyes is so much better now and his ears are not so smelly as well. Shaggy is now a happier boy, he even tried to play, hope and jump especially when we come home from work or school.


When we walk him every morning, the first part of the walk i have to carry him and walk very fast towards the grass area so that he will not pee on the pavement. And he really holds till he reached the permitted area and there he lets it all out and its really alot of urine.


Shaggy is still pretty skinny and his legs are not strong enough to stand too long but he never gives up walking, he enjoys walking with us every morning and sometimes in the evening as well.


Oh yes, Shaggy is a very 'greedy' boy, he eats alot and pretty fast too. Shaggy is also learn the simple command like SIT, WAIT and GO.  He now sleeps with us all and with my two other furkids. He is free to roam around the house although at times he may pee everywhere.


He always wags his tail when you call his name and you can see that he is so happy.
In another 5 days' time, he is due for review and by then we believe he should be fine and putting on some weight. 

This is an update on Maggie ( the sterlised female)

A lovely docile 6 year old sterilised dog. Wonderful temperament, gets along with other dogs and exceptionally good with kids and people. She is recovering from an ear infection and even when we have to dig into her ears to clean, a very painful and uncomfortable process, she will whine and cry and probably struggle to get away but she never bites. You can also pop medicine into her mouth by opening her jaws, she won't bite and obediently swallows even though she doesn't quite like the taste. She is very trusting and loving and loves following you around the house. If you are sitting on the sofa she will sleep by your feet, a real lap dog Maggie is.

We are looking for a committed home who has experience with spaniel's long ears and the needs she will require. Once her infection clears, it will be just regular maintainence. Maggie has never been toilet trained by her previous owners and sometimes gets locked up a tiny cage for long periods of time. She treats the newspapers like her bed (we suspect this is all she had to sleep on previously) and will not dirty the paper. She does not know what grass is and avoids it, prefering the pavement.

She has learnt to hold her pee and poo till she gets her walks (until she can no longer control and accidents happen). If you have a place where she can do her toilet without inconveniencing yourself or a helper or family member to walk her so she doesn't have to hold her pee/poo, you will be giving this sweet dog a chance for another life and also earned yourself a devoted and loyal companian.

Maggie is also learning to walk on leash without pulling and now can enter a lift without being too nervous. In a very short space of time she understand what is "wait, don't touch the treat" and "sit". It just provies you can teach an older dog new tricks!!

Update on Happy aka Asher by a fosterer:

Asher is currently partially toilet & paper trained. if there is paper he will do on it otherwise he will make his way to the toilet. At times, he does forget or mischievously he will pee on the floor. Asher still has his playfulness in him, and he enjoys chasing a ball around. He is a very manja dog, likes to stand on his hind legs to grab your attention and ask you to sayang him. He will "kiss" you and he is easy to train. Learns fast. Not a dominating dog, and will learn his boundaries if you teach him.

He has wonderful temperament, gets along with other dogs and exceptionally good with kids and people. He is recovering from an eye infection and has learnt to sit down and let u drip the medicine into his eye. he seem to know this will lessen the pain although he doesn't fancy it. Medication are easily fed as u can mix it into his food and he will eat it all up.. He is very trusting and loving and loves following you around the house, Always ready with a wag in his tail.

Asher WILL NOT do his business outdoors as he gets very nervous when he is out of the house. He is afraid of the cars and loud noise. needs reassurance from his owner. But he walks well on the leash, he will never pull.

In a short time he understands what is "wait, don't touch the treat" and "sit". It just proves you can teach an older dog new tricks!!

Urgent homes needed for 3 HDB sized dogs, Cavalier King Charles as the family undergoing personal family crisis and issues. It is too complicated to discuss here but the need is genuine and the owner is devastated but there is nothing she can do. The situation is beyond her. We ask for your understanding and appeal for genuine help.

These dogs were adopted 6 years ago.

Two are 6 years old and one is 8.

Beautiful Brownie - Lemon/White Beagle

Beautiful Brownie, the beagle

Beautiful Brownie was an impulse purchase by her first owner, however his job being in the air industry, required him to travel constantly and realising Brownie needed more attention than an electronic gadget of a Fido or Dido (sigh), much more than what he had anticipated, he handed Brownie to a friend of his who already has a dog.

The second owners tried very hard with Brownie but she is young and active and their other dog is older. The family cannot cope with a young and active Brownie who has much energy to burn. They do love her but true love means wanting the dog to be happy. And so with that in mind, however reluctant it is to let her go they feel that if there is a loving family who has time for Brownie, to bring her for walk, run and play to heart's desire and give her the due attention, as it should be, then it will be better for her.

Brownie turns 1 this month (her birthday being 27 Sep 2009) and she is in perfect health. She has such a wonderful temperament and gets along well with people, children, everyone for she is ever ready for a game - being the healthy happy typical young active beagle. She also adores other dogs and enjoy 'catch me if you can' and 'i love playing tag'.

We are sure if you are ready for a young active dog, who can be your jogging companian and soul mate, you will love Brownie. Brownie is vaccinated up to date however she is not sterilised yet and we do require the adopter to cover the sterilising costs, all receipts will be provided.

We would appreciate if you can provide us with as much information of yourself, your family, lifestyle, any experience with dogs so that we may get to know you better. The more details we know of you, the easier it will be for us to get back to you. Please bear in mind that beagles are not HDB approved.

Lost Dog - Big Ben

Description of dog:

- He is a big dog wearing a choker-chain on his neck.

- He has brown head, white mouth and up ears.

- Body is all white with brown, black spot and long tail.

- This dog has a scar on his body, someone tried to cut off a big part of him before.

If anyone saw or found this dog, please hold on to him and call HP: 9765 9951, he is a timid boy and won't bite at all.

 

A Mother's Love

One recent Saturday night, during an extremely heavy downpour, amidst thunder and lightning, when many of us would be safe and sound, warmly cuddled in our cosy homes, curled up in front of the televsion set or relaxing in peace and comfort, not so for the unfortunate. Cries of puppies' whimpering and dog's howling could be heard. They were piteous and kept on and on. and neighbouring dogs in the vincinity barked their heads off in high excitement or was it in compassionate sympathy.

The cries were heard near a construction site and so an alarm went out among the animal lovers in that area. Two bravely went out in search. It was a terrible night, visibility was poor, the rain did not ease and near the site there were no street lamps. It was dark and slippery as mud mixed with sand made it hard on sodden slippers and shoes. The rescuers went on in blind sight but by faith and hope that they would be able to find the crying puppies.

After an hour or so in the wet, cold and in darkness, the sounds seemed to come from a nearby drain gushing with water. The puppies, we speculate, apparently must have stumbled into the drain as they were young and the rain made it hard for them to follow their mom. Mommy dog was seen from a distance, sitting nearby crying for help as she could not rescue her pups, who were in the swirling brackish water. She knew her pups were drowning and there was nothing she could do but howl for help.

When the rescuers got near mommy, she was excited and cried even louder, sensing that help was on the way. In wondrous amazement, she came near as if to beckon them, and then ran ahead to show the rescuers the exact location of her pups. It was a very pitiful sight. As the rescuers looked around, there were workers at the construction site, near where the drain was but nobody bothered or came forward to help the mommy dog, nobody was touched, nobody cared. In plain sight, the poor mom with her drowning pups looked extremely forlorn and tragic.

Which was more more pitiful picutre at that time... we wondered? What was the greater tragedy.  The sight of the drowning pups clawing desperately to get out of the water, the crying, frantic, whimpering mummy dog watching her beloved babies die or the apathy of hard hearted humans who had no compassion, no tinge of kindness.  Sigh and sigh again.

The brave rescuers had to be careful as they were women and the drain was big. The rain was heavy with strong winds and water was already overflowing. They held on tight to each other for firm grip as there was nothing to hold on to, so that they would not fall into the drains and be swept away themselves. They managed to grab hold of one pup first with much effort and quickly passed from one to the other and finally to the mother dog as she grabbed them by their its neck to safety. They did that with two pups but sadly they were too late to rescue the third as it did not make it.

One of the pups had a serious injury at its back, with a big open cut and needed medical attention. We decided that both the pups needed to be warmed up and they could no longer stay at this site where danger was everywhere. They were so young and clumsy and death would be imminent a day longer for them here.

We told mommy dog that we will take her pups back home and get them back to health and then look for good homes for them. She seemed to understand as she stood there, quietly looking as we took her two babies away. Then she followed us slowly to our car and as we drove off. In our rear view mirrow we saw she ran after the car for a while, but stopped, as if she knew they would be safe with us.

The next day we visited the mother dog and showed her the pups. She was very happy to see them.  We also brought food for her whereupon she ate very hurriedly and gratefully. When we left this time with her pups, mommy did not follow us nor chased after the car. We think she knows they would be safe and she must have felt relieved for them.

We will keep our promise, we will treat the pups and try to find them good homes. We will visit her often with food so that she will not starve of hunger and when the time is right, we will return to catch mommy and sterilise her.

The beautiful eyes of the innocent. Doomed for death but God has a greater plan. Will you journey with us to see His plan for Mommy's beloved.

But we need your help, We need open doors for these two pups saved from near death. These two brindle pups are looking for good homes. They are young, less than 2 months old and will grow into mid size dogs.

They will not be HDB approved. If there are any compassionate hearts who would like to adopt them, please call HP: 9765 9951.

As in all dogs, they will be as brave and endearing and loyal as their beautiful mom if you would just give them a chance. Can you? Will you?

Handsome Lucky for Adoption

-Small frame mid size dog

Young Lucky has the looks of a small German Shepherd, and the cutest and friendliest in the litter of orphaned pups, protective of his siblings. 

After a series of unfortunate events, Lucky was finally adopted by a family and just when everything seems to be turning out right for him, the grandmother of the house fell very sick. The family had no choice but to board him out while the situation was critical but now it appears that the temporary solution then most likely will stretch much longer than they had anticipated. 

Granny is now under full time nursing care at home. The doctor has advised there be no pets as she has breathing difficulties so poor Lucky has lost his home and the love of his life. The family, face with such a state is opening Lucky up to another home if one can be found as it would be fairer for him then in limbo at boarding.

Lucky is a small frame medium-size dog and not suitable for HDB as licensing rules apply. Viewing will be at the fosterer's home at Punggol if you are interested. Please call or sms 9830-8822 or email anaterry@singnet.com.sg if you have a home and heart to help poor young unlucky Lucky.
